Few things are more enjoyable – or more challenging – to design than a gig poster. The contrast between designing something for a band versus designing something for a company is staggering, as there simply aren’t any constraints when it comes to creating a gig poster. You need to capture the personality, essence and style of the band – but you can do that in any way you feel is best, and the print medium provides a fun and interesting challenge (particularly if you’re more used to web design).
It’s rare that you’re given a brief specifying exactly what the artist wants, and quite often you’re left to your own devices and style, letting you create the poster as complex or as minimal as you’d like. This can be both liberating and scary – there’s nothing quite as terrifying as a blank canvas.
We’ve brought together a showcase of creative, beautifully designed gig posters that all encapsulate the style and personality of the band or artist they promote. We hope they’ll inspire you for your next gig poster design project.
Are there any examples of creative, interesting gig posters that you’ve found that deserve a mention? Let us know in the comments.
